Roofing Shingles
Curling or bucking roofing shingles usually insinuate a problem with ventilation. When hot, moist air gets trapped in your attic which can heat the underside of the shingles. This can cause them to curl or buckle, which makes leaking more likely. Also, look for dark spots on the roof that could be caused by missing shingles. Missing shingles leave the underlayment exposed to elements.
Gutters
Your gutter system is a crucial component of your roofing system and play a critical part in keeping your home dry and damage free. Unfortunately, gutters easily clog with debris. When they get clogged, water can back up onto your roof and seep through the shingles. Water can also pool around the foundation of your home and cause damage. It’s pivotal that you clean your gutters at least twice a year to prevent clogging and related damage.
Flashing
Flashing is the strip of metal used to seal and protect your roof from water infiltration. It’s usually installed around joints or intersections (I.e. vents, chimneys, valleys). Since these are areas where water often pools on your roof, it’s important to check them for cracks or rust spots.
