Roof Warranties: Types of Coverage Explained | TN & GA

When you replace your roof — often after wind or hail damage here in Middle Tennessee and North Georgia — the warranty matters as much as the roof itself. There’s more than one kind, and each covers something different. It’s on you, not your insurance company, to pick a contractor who offers strong coverage, so it pays to know your options before you sign. Here are the main types.

Types of Coverage Explained

Labor Warranty. A labor warranty covers the cost of the work only — not the materials. If the install was done wrong, this is what pays to fix it.

Installation Warranty. An installation warranty covers roof problems caused by a bad install. It’s close to a labor warranty — both protect you if the crew makes a mistake.

Material Warranty. A material warranty covers the materials themselves. If your shingles or other products have a manufacturer defect, they get replaced. It doesn’t cover a bad install — just the materials.

Northpoint’s Warranties

Here’s what comes with a Northpoint roof:

  • 10-year labor warranty. Every install includes a 10-year workmanship warranty. If a problem comes up from how the roof was installed — inside or out — we fix it free during those 10 years. It’s also transferable once, with written notice, which adds value if you sell your home.
  • Lifetime shingle warranty. Your shingles are covered against manufacturer defects for the life of the shingle.
  • Optional upgrade. You can upgrade to a premium manufacturer warranty that covers both labor and materials for up to 50 years, for an added cost.

Why It Matters Here

Our storms put roofs to the test, so strong warranty coverage is real peace of mind. And a warranty you can pass on is a selling point when you list your home — a plus in markets like Franklin and Kennesaw.

FAQ

Why hire a GAF Master Elite® contractor for an insurance claim?

Two reasons. First, Master Elite contractors install to the manufacturer’s strictest specification, which gives you access to GAF’s System Plus, Silver Pledge, or Golden Pledge® warranties. Second, only a Master Elite installer can register a Golden Pledge® — the strongest manufacturer warranty in residential roofing, and a credential adjusters and homeowners both recognize.

Is GAF Master Elite® the same as GAF Certified?

No. “GAF Certified” is the entry-level credential and is much more common. “GAF Master Elite®” is the top tier — less than 2% of roofers in the U.S. carry it. Only Master Elite contractors can register Golden Pledge® warranties.

Do I have to use GAF shingles to get the Master Elite warranty?

Yes — the Master Elite warranties are GAF’s own product, so they require GAF system components. We use GAF as our primary line on Franklin homes anyway because the warranty stack is the strongest available, and the shingle quality is class-leading.

Why don’t more Franklin contractors have Master Elite?

Because it’s hard to get and hard to keep. The certification requires verifiable longevity, ongoing factory training for crews, ongoing licensing and insurance verification, and a clean reputation record. The 96% of home-improvement contractors who don’t survive five years can’t hold a credential like this. The credential is, in part, the point: it filters out the contractors most likely to disappear.
